WebMatrix

WebMatrix is a free tool for web development from Microsoft. It was released in early 2011 and software engineers or developers can use it to build websites capable of running on Windows or Linux platforms.  ASP.NET Web Matrix was released in 2003 and later discontinued by Microsoft in favor of a free version of Visual Studio’s web development functionality named Web Developer Express. In 2010, Microsoft announced a software project aimed at providing easy-to-use web development environment. This was WebMatrix, released in January 2011.  Microsoft WebMatrix could be used by non-programmers to build and maintain rich web applications both the hand codding of web pages, and the use of open source software provided by third-party website template and Content Management System providers such as Umbraco, Joomla and WordPress.
